Boating Mishap Leads to Reminder From Sheriff's Office

Duluth, MN (KDAL) - Rescuers say a boating mishap over the weekend should serve as a reminder to all boaters.  Douglas County Sheriff’s Deputies were called late Saturday afternoon to Wisconsin Point after an 18-foot long fiberglass Stingray struck a railroad tie.  The driver, a Duluth man, says he travelling along the point when he spotted the tie and tried unsuccessfully to avoid it by swerving.  The force of the impact threw two of the five children onboard out of the boat.  But because everyone was wearing life jackets, all eight of the people onboard, including the children thrown out, were able to get to shore, uninjured.  While the boat took on water, it was able to make it to shore where it was towed to Rice’s Point.  The sheriff’s office reminds all boaters and their passengers to wear life jackets while out on the water.
