Duluth, MN (KDAL) - MN DOT says it’s monitoring three portions of Highway 53 near the Ash River due to settling of pavement. According to engineers, recent heavy rainfall has caused the pavement to settle slightly in the segments. It's also led to mudslides in the area, south of Kabetogama Lake. They add that they are working with foundations specialists to figure out how to permanently fix the issues. The goal, according to the D-O-T, is secure emergency federal funds and make the repairs this fall. In the meantime, MN DOT workers will be checking the three locations daily.
