US Postmaster General To Review Duluth Mail Processing Facility Closure

Duluth, MN (KDAL) - Postmaster General Patrick Donahoe says he’ll personally review the decision to close the Duluth mail processing facility.  Congressman Rick Nolan says he spoke with Donahoe on Friday and asked him to rethink the move, which would put 70 workers out of a job.  While Donahoe made no promises, Nolan says the conversation was very friendly and productive and that Donahoe listened to his concerns.  The democrat asserts that, by law, the Postal Service is required to consider any and all harmful consequences a closure would have on rural communities.  Under a plan put forward by the Postal Service last month, the Duluth processing center would be closed and their operations would be relocated to the Twin Cities.  Only the retail location would remain open.  This Friday morning Nolan, who represents the Eighth Congressional District, which spans across the Minnesota side of K-D-A-L’s broadcast range, will hold a public forum to give constituents a chance to voice their opinions on the matter.  That forum will be held in the basement of the United Methodist Church beginning at 9:00.
