BUY AMERICAN: Nolan Introduces Pipeline Bill

Duluth, MN (KDAL) - Eighth District Congressman Rick Nolan has introduced legislation requiring all energy pipeline built in the U-S to contain 100-percent American steel.  The democrat made the announcement Thursday at a press conference on the Iron Range in Eveleth surrounded by steelworkers.

Nolan says “Although there are numerous laws requiring the federal government to procure U.S.-made products for projects using U.S. taxpayer funds, we continue to allow federally permitted pipelines to be built with foreign steel…” That said Nolan points out that America’s steel industry is at about 75 percent of its production capacity primarily because  manufacturers are being undercut on price.

‘The American Pipeline Jobs & Safety Act of 2014’ (H.R. 4441) has been referred to both the Transportation and Infrastructure Committee as well as to the Energy Commerce Committee.  It could be acted on when the Pipeline and Hazardous Materials Safety Administration is reauthorized, which should happen before September 2015.
