Peace Bell Ceremony In Duluth WIll Commemorate 9-11

DULUTH, MN (KDAL) - Duluth Mayor Don Ness and the Mayor of sister city Isumi City, Japan will strike the matching peace bells at 11 a-m Wednesday to remember and honor those who were killed in the terrorist attacks in the U-S on 9-11 and honor those in Japan devastated by the earthquake and tsunami in 2011.  The Duluth event is being held in the Japanese Peace Bell Garden near Enger Tower and the public is urged to attend.  The strong ties between sister cities Duluth and Isumi City began when Duluth returned an ancient temple bell that was taken after World War Two.  To show its appreciation, the Japanese city, then called Ohara, presented Duluth with a replica bell in 1993.
