ST. PAUL, MN (KDAL) - On a 4-1 vote, the Minnesota Executive Council on Friday granted mineral leases to several companies for the exploration of non-ferrous metals in the northeastern part of the state. The only dissenting vote was from State Auditor Rebecca Otto who expressed concern about the mining's effect on future generations. Supporters believe the DNR will do an adequate job of overseeing new mining projects and say the area needs the jobs that will be created.
