U-S House Passes Water Resources Reform And Development Act

WASHINGTON, D.C. (KDAL) - The U-S House of Representatives on Wednesday passed the Water Resources Reform and Development Act with bipartisan support.  8th District Congressman Rick Nolan added several amendments to the bill including a change to the definition of invasive species.  It now includes invasive animals and fish as well as plant life.  The bill also stops the raids on the Harbor Maintenance Trust Fund and closes the upper St. Anthony Falls to prevent Asian Carp from reaching northern Minnesota waters.  Another amendment would treat the Great Lakes as one system instead of a chain of individual waterways.  Nolan says the bill is important  for northern Minnesota jobs and the ability to move ore, crops and manufactured goods from the Port of Duluth to customers around the world.
