DULUTH, MN (KDAL) - Minnesota Power has filed a Certificate of Need application with the Public Utilities Commission for a 240 mile transmission line that would link the Manitoba Hydro plant to the electric substation on the Iron Range. The Great Northern Transmission line would be jointly owned by Minnesota Power and a subsidiary of Manitoba Hydro. Minnesota Power says it would provide additional clean energy to power across a regional electric grid. Subject to obtaining all the needed permits, construction would begin in June of 2016 and take nearly 48 months to complete.
