DULUTH, MN (KDAL) - One of the famed Tuskegee Airmen of World War Two and Duluth resident Joe Gomer has died. Gomer was 93 years old and a member of the African American squad that provided protection for bombers in the European theater of the war. A full size statue of Gomer was dedicated at the opening of the new Duluth Airport Terminal. Durbin Keeney, founder of MAC-V and a friend of Gomer says we have lost a gentle soul who helped change the world. The story of the Tuskegee Airmen was portrayed in the recent movie "Red Tails".
