Duluth, MN (KDAL) - The investigation continues after a Pine County homeowner shot and killed an armed intruder earlier this morning. The Pine County Sheriff’s Office says the incident happened near Sandstone when two males, one of whom was armed with a handgun, entered the home off of Fox Road in what appears to have been a foiled robbery attempt. When they confronted the elderly homeowner, investigators say the man pulled out a handgun and shot the armed 23 year-old intruder, who died at the scene. The homeowner wasn’t hurt. The sheriff’s office and Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension are now searching for the second suspect, who they believe fled the scene on foot to a vehicle that was parked nearby. Chief Deputy Steven Blackwell tells K-D-A-L News, investigators believe the suspect is hunkered down somewhere and there is no danger to the public. Anyone with more information is asked to call the Pine County Sheriff's Office.
