Duluth, MN (KDAL) - A Duluth man has been charged with trying to choke and kill his ex-girlfriend. Officers were dispatched to the Miller Hill Mall just before 10:00 Thursday night on the report of a domestic assault. Through the course of their investigation, authorities say 22 year-old Matthew Paul Shober had gone to the 21-year-old victim’s workplace after the pair had broken up. While they were talking outside at a bus stop, investigators say Shober became upset and allegedly choked the Duluth woman, slammed her head against the wall, in the process knocking her unconscious. He then kicked her in the head several times. At that point authorities say Shober called 9-1-1 and told dispatchers that he had just tried to kill the woman. First responding officers found her unresponsive on the sidewalk and she was rushed to Essentia St. Mary’s Hospital with serious, non-life threatening injuries. At last check Shober was in custody at the St. Louis County Jail, charged with First and Second Degree Attempted Murder.
