DULUTH, MN (KDAL) - City officials on Wednesday announced plans to redo the portion of Superior Street between Lake Avenue and 5th Avenue West in the next month. Noting the brick street is nearing the end of its useful life, Mayor Don Ness said the construction is needed to make necessary repairs and will be part of a larger Superior Street reconstruction that would happen in 2015. Ness didn't rule out that the larger project could involve brick, but said the city will spend substantial time meeting with businesses and residents to come up with the best way to redo the street and make it viable for the next 30 to 40 years. A steering committee will be set up, and the city will start working with the public toward the end of the summer. The temporary fix will take place in the next few weeks and will be completed in time for Grandma's Marathon, officials said.
