Duluth, MN (KDAL) - Crews appear to be gaining the upper hand over a forest fire which has destroyed 17 homes across just under nine thousand acres of southern Douglas County and Bayfield County. The D-N-R’s Catherine Koele says at last check the fire was nearly surrounded by fire crews and it was 90-percent contained. However, she says dry windy conditions could spread those flames today. Even though there was standing snow in the area just a couple of week ago, but with fire season here, it doesn’t take much for a fire to start and spread. At last check the fire had destroyed 47 structures. 59 residents were evacuated. There have been no injuries reported.
