HIBBING, MN (KDAL) - While it's tough-going for municipal golf courses in northern Minnesota, those with country club status don't have to worry as much about the bottom line. The Mesaba Country Club in Hibbing is 99-percent snow free and will likely open this Thursday if the forecast holds, according to head pro Gary Yeager. But opening seven weeks earlier last year didn't translate to more money for the club, Yeager said, because labor costs offset low foot traffic in March and April. Yeager said this will mark the latest he recalls the course opening in his 22 years as a pro at Mesaba, which despite its country club name is open to the general public as well.
