DULUTH, MN (KDAL) - Duluth Mayor Don Ness has been honored with the Minnesota Phoenix Award for Outstanding Contributions to Disaster Recovery by the U-S Small Business Administration. The award is presented to a public official for contributions to a community's recovery following a natural disaster from the previous year. Elaine Hansen, Director of the Northeast Minnesota Small Business Development Center, nominated Mayor Ness for the award for his leadership following last June's flooding that left the city with over a 100 million dollars in damage. Mayor Ness says the award will be accepted on behalf of all elected officials, volunteers and neighbors who took on the "unglamorous work of flood recovery." The award will be presented during the Minnesota Small Business Week Awards Program on May 6th in Minneapolis.
