UNDATED (KDAL) - Area counties were among the lower scoring counties in Minnesota according to the nationwide County Health Rankings prepared by the University of Wisconsin and released by the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation. Out of the 87 Minnesota counties, St. Louis County ranked 72nd while Carlton County was 81st and Lake County was 83rd in the state. Carver County was on top in the healthy county rankings while Cass County held down the last spot. In Wisconsin, Douglas County ranked 53rd out of 72 counties. Bringing area county scores down were adult smoking, obesity, excessive drinking rates and unemployment that were all higher than state averages.
