LAKE COUNTY, MN (KDAL) - A conservation easement deal in Lake County will ensure protection of more than 10,000 acres of forested land there, Department of Natural Resources officials announced Thursday. The DNR struck the permanent, $5.67-million deal with the Marlow Timberland company, based in Duluth. Marlow Timberland will maintain ownership, but the agreement requires public access to the land for hunting, fishing and other outdoor recreation. The company must also manage the land using sustainable forest management methods. The DNR said the transaction was made possible through tax money provided by the Outdoor Heritage Fund, state capital bonding and Reinvest in Minnesota.
