Duluth, MN (KDAL) - At a public meeting last night in Duluth residents around UMD and from the Woodland neighborhood were heated up over a plan by the Fire Department to close two fire halls in the area and build a new facility along Snively road.  Residents were concerned such a move would decrease response times and that one of the Department's fire rigs would be sold off.

The Fire Chief countered that a study showed just the opposite and that response times would be improved, assets better utilized and that the city would save money.  That same study was the one that closed the fire hall on Park Point.

The final decision, after more debate, will be made by the City Council.
