DULUTH, MN (KDAL) - Two peregrine falcon chicks were banded Friday at Minnesota Power's Hibbard Renewable Energy Center, giving researchers and opportunity to track the 12th and 13th such birds hatched at the facility since 2008. The bands signify the birds are from the Midwest, and allows them to be entered into the University of Minnesota research database. The peregrine falcon, once threatened with extinction, has recovered. The Iowa-based Raptor Research Project, which tagged these falcons, has banded more than 1,000 peregrines while working with electric utility companies around the state.
