WASHINGTON, D.C. (KDAL) - The St. Lawrence Seaway reports that year-to-date total cargo shipments through the end of May were down 12 percent over the same period in 2012. Despite grain shipments more than doubling, the usual strong shipments of iron ore and coal were down 17 and 7 percent respectively. General cargo was also down 19 percent. After the slow start, most seaway ports are expecting better numbers as the shipping season continues.
