ISLAND LAKE, MN (KDAL) - Rainy conditions and cold temperatures couldn't prevent a milestone yesterday. Steve Littler and Ron Carl, Jr., both of Duluth, beat a field of 20 teams to win the Kolar ALS Walleye Tournament on Island Lake. The combined weight of their catch was 10.57 pounds, more than a pound better than the runners-up. But the more important number was 2 million. After this year, the tournament surpassed $2 million for total dollars raised during its 18-year history. The money goes to help find a cure for ALS, also known as Lou Gehrig's disease. Some big names were on hand yesterday; Kent Hrbek was tournament host, and he was joined by former NHL stars and current coaches Darby Hendrickson and Jim Johnson. The team of Tony Skorich and Chris Edquist of Superior landed a 4.02-pound walleye for the largest of the day.
