MADISON, WI (KDAL) - A legislative hearing on a proposed Wisconsin mining bill was held on Wednesday in Madison. The bill would revise restrictions on mining in the state and could lead to a taconite mine and processing facility in Ashland and Iron Counties. G-Tac, the company that expressed interest in developing the mine, said they were no longer interested after a similar bill failed to pass last year. The company now indicates they would reconsider if changes to regulations are made in their favor. Although the five billion dollar investment would mean lots of needed jobs, many are concerned about the environmental problems the mine could create.
