Klobuchar Continues Fight for Russian Adoption Cases

UNDATED (KDAL) - Following the Russian government's decision to delay its American adoption ban by one year, U.S. Senator Amy Klobuchar yesterday reached out to President Vladimir Putin to call on his government to allow for the completion of adoptions that had already begun prior to the ban. Klobuchar joined 70 other members of Congress in sending a letter to the Russian president. She also wrote to President Obama urging his administration to apply pressure on the Russian government to process the pending cases. Klobuchar last week met with Minnesota families affected by the ban and is working with the State Department to ensure their adoptions get done. According to a press release, the State Department estimates there are currently 500 to 1,000 pending Russian adoption cases in the United States. Minnesota has the highest rate of international adoptions in the country.
