Dayton Signs Health Care Expansion Bill

by

ST. PAUL, MN (KDAL) - Governor Mark Dayton on Tuesday signed legislation that will provide access to quality health care coverage for an additional 35 thousand low income Minnesota adults.  The bill was authored by Representative Tom Huntley of Duluth and Senator Kathy Sheran of Mankato.  It takes advantage of a key component of the federal Affordable Health Care Act which allows states to expand Medical Assistance eligibility.  Huntley says the legislation allows more Minnesotans to have health insurance and also creates more "bang for the buck" for the state taxpayers.  The federal government funds 100 percent of the expansion through 2016 and reduces support to 90 percent by 2020.
