HERMANTOWN, MN (KDAL) - A zamboni driver who stuck his hand in the machine's auger to clean it out received only a cut and is doing fine, despite a scare that the auger might still have been running as he did so. Trent Sundbom was cleaning the ice at one of the rinks outside of the Hermantown arena Saturday morning when he made to clean out the auger and his hand became stuck, according to another arena zamboni driver who did not see the incident but was in the area at the time. An ambulance was called, but disaster was averted as Sundbom was able to free his hand with minor cuts. Paul Rabold, the other zamboni driver, said he believes that if the auger was still moving, Sundbom's chopper mittens likely helped prevent further damage.
