Duluth, MN (KDAL) - More than a month ahead of its scheduled ending, the D-N-R will close the wolf hunting season in northeastern Minnesota at the end of shooting hours today. Authorities say the wolf harvest had reached 34. The target was 33. The zone includes much of Saint Louis and Carlton Counties—eastern Aitkin County as well as all of Lake and Cook Counties. In the early season, hunters harvested 32 wolves in the northeast zone. Hunting and trapping continues in the northwest and east-central wolf zones, which includes extreme southern Carlton County and all of Pine County. At last check two wolves had been taken in the east-central zone. The target is 10. The season closes either January 31st or when the target harvest is met, whichever comes first.
