WASHBURN, WI (KDAL) - A phone scam is surfacing in the Bayfield County area and the sheriff's office and other law enforcement agencies are again advising residents not to give out personal information during unsolicited phone calls. The latest scam involves a call from someone claiming to be from the Chippewa Valley Bank saying your debit card has been locked or frozen and requesting information about your account. The Chippewa Valley Bank has confirmed that the calls are not being done by them. Unless you initiate the call to your bank, never give out banking information over the phone.
