HOYT LAKES, MN (KDAL) - 93 year old Arleigh Birk from Hoyt Lakes was just 21 years old and was serving aboard the USS Honolulu when he watched the Japanese attack Pearl Harbor on December 7th, 1941.  To mark the 72nd Anniversary of the attack that brought America into World War Two, 8th District Congressman Rick Nolan will make a special presentation to Birk at the Hoyt Lakes VFW Post 8144 on Saturday.  Following Pearl Harbor, Birk was reassigned to the USS Denver and remained in the Pacific Theater of the war until he was discharged in February of 1946.  Nolan is also making stops on Saturday at the Gilbert VFW and the Aurora American Legion to honor vets at those locations.
