DULUTH, MN (KDAL) - Duluth City Councilor Patrick Boyle will be announcing his candidacy for St. Louis County Commissioner in the 2nd District. The seat was left vacant after the death of Steve O'Neil in July. Boyle says O'Neil was his friend and mentor and that he was contacted and asked to run by O'Neil's wife. Since there are now at least three candidates for the position, a primary election will be held on November 5th with the top two finishers moving on to the special election in January. Boyle is also running unopposed for re-election to his council seat. Should he win both, Boyle says he would resign from the City Council.
