VIRGINIA, MN (KDAL) - At Tuesday's St. Louis County Board meeting, the Iron Mining Association presented a check for 50 thousand dollars to the Iron Range Veterans Memorial Committee. The amount is enough to cover all the final costs for the sculpture that now stands in the Virginia Veterans Memorial Park. The 27 foot tall creation was dedicated last year as a tribute to all service men and women from the Iron Range. A miniature model will soon go on permanent display at the Minnesota State Capitol. Tom Berrigan, chair of the Iron Range Veterans Memorial Committee, spoke at the board meeting and detailed the 14 year effort to raise the funds to make the memorial a reality.
