DULUTH, MN (KDAL) - Minnesota Power has completed the installation of several electric infrastructure projects for the Essar taconite mine and processing facility in Nashwauk. When complete, the Essar plant will be capable of producing 7 million metric tons of taconite pellets. New transmission lines and substations were installed over the last two years at a cost of 35 million dollars. Minnesota Power officials say the new infrastructure will be the backbone of Essar's planned operations now and in the future. The new transmission lines not only provide power for Nashwauk and Essar Steel but will also enhances electric reliability for the entire region.
