DULUTH, MN (KDAL) - The City of Duluth has been awarded a 25 thousand dollar grant from "Cities of Service" to implement a program designed to address food access equity in the Lincoln Park neighborhood. Mayor Don Ness says over 6 thousand people live in Lincoln Park, making it one of the most densely populated areas in Duluth. The community gardening program called "Let's Grow Lincoln Park" is expected to yield about 1700 pounds of fresh produce for the community which the USDA has identified as a "food desert". The initiative, sponsored by the city and several organizations, will increase the Lincoln Park neighborhood's access to affordable, fresh and healthy food.
