DULUTH, MN (KDAL) - The Minnesota Housing Finance Agency is awarding nearly 9 million dollars in low income housing tax credits for the Hillside Apartments project in Duluth. The Minnesota Department of Human Services is also providing 174 thousand dollars for operation expenses. The project will remove vacant and blighted buildings on 4th Street between 1st and 2nd Avenues West to make way for a new apartment complex providing 44 units of supportive housing for homeless families with children. There will also be six units for emergency shelter. The entire project will cost about 11 million dollars with construction beginning in 2013.
