(KDAL) - The American Cancer Society is holding the annual Great American Smokeout on Thursday to encourage the nearly 45 million Americans who still smoke to quit. Polls show nearly 70 percent of smokers in the U-S want to quit and about half have tried during the past year to give up cigarettes. Health officials say it's never too late to quit and stopping now will quickly reduce the risk of heart attacks or other heart related problems. Among the websites with resources to help you quit are www.cancer.org/smokeout and www.quitplan.com
