MILWAUKEE (WTAQ) - A man who was freed on a signature bond for his role in a robbery and murder in Milwaukee was ordered back to jail late Thursday.

Court Commissioner Kevin Costello okayed the signature bond Thursday morning for 21-year-old Derrick Byrd, who's charged with felony murder. But prosecutors feared that Byrd and two other suspects might intimidate witnesses and keep them from testifying.

So they asked Circuit Judge David Borowski to second Byrd to jail -- and the judge agreed, and ordered a $50,000 bond.

Another hearing to review Byrd's bond will be held Friday morning.

He's charged in the October 27th death of 41-year-old Shawn Jenkins during a robbery at the victim's recycling business.

Byrd told officers he planned the holdup, but someone else committed the murder. The other two suspects have not been charged.
