Last Place on Earth owner Jim Carlson and three employees entered a not guilty plea today at an arraignment in U.S. District Court in Duluth. A federal grand jury on Tuesday unsealed an indictment containing 54 charges against Carlson and Lava Marie Haugen, Joseph James Gellerman and Jamie Paul Anderson committed violations of the Federal Food, Drug, and Cosmetic Act, the Controlled Substances Act, and the Controlled Substances Analogue Enforcement Act. The four were charged with numerous crimes, including conspiracy to commit violations of the FDCA and conspiracy to distribute controlled substance analogues. The trial is slated to begin March 11 at 9 a.m. before Judge David S. Doty.
