As more snow across the northland today likely will pique the desires of snowmobile aficionados, the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources is reminding riders that it's been too warm for lakes and rivers to freeze solid. Department officials said the state's lakes don't have as much ice as they would like for mid-December, and that's compounded by a thick layer of snow insulation preventing ice from forming quickly. Officials are urging riders to be smart, and for now, stay off lakes and rivers. The latest snowmobile trail conditions can be found on the DNR's website.
