Snow Storm Bad Here, Worse to the South

Travel conditions are quickly deteriorating throughout the region this morning, as steady snowfall continues during this early winter storm. The heaviest snow and lowest visibility is expected between mid-morning and mid-afternoon today, and the snow will gradually taper from the northwest through the overnight hours, according to the National Weather Service in Duluth. Totals in this area are expected to exceed six inches, with higher amounts expected in the central, south-central and southwest parts of the state. Blizzard warnings are already in effect for many counties in the west-central and southwest portions of Minnesota. The Twin Cities metro is expected to see anywhere from 10-15 inches of snowfall by the time this storm is over. By 9 a.m., 4.7 inches had fallen in Pine City; Cotton had seen 1.2 inches; Brainerd had seen 2 inches; Moose Lake had seen 2 inches; and 1 inch had fallen in Ely.
