St. Paul (KDAL) - The State's budget deficit is expected to top one point one billion dollars over the next two years.  That from the money counters in St. Paul yesterday who said that the shortfall could double if the Federal government doesn't come up with a plan to avoid falling over the fiscal cliff by the end of this year.

State Senate Majority Leader Tom Bakk of Cook said yesterday that the State has done a good job of fiscal management, but that the State will need to do a better job going forward.  Lawmakers will face the budget issue when the convene in January.

The budget deficit comes even though revenues have increased more than eight hundred million dollars over projections.
