DULUTH, Min. (KDAL) - Former 8th District Congressman Jim Oberstar, who also chaired the House Transportation Committee, will be honored in Duluth Tuesday by the Interlake Steamship Company. The 806 foot ore carrier, "Charles M. Beeghly" was renamed the "Honorable James L. Oberstar" prior to the 2011 shipping season and will be officially christened in a ceremony today in the Twin Ports harbor. Oberstar and his wife Jean are expected to be on hand for the christening at 10:30 a-m near the DECC. Because of security concerns, only invited guests will be allowed to attend the ceremony, but the general public can watch the proceedings from the Canal Park side of the blue pedestrian bridge.
