Defining Marriage Amendment Passes Senate

ST. PAUL, Min. (MNN) - The state Senate has approved a proposed constitutional amendment that would prohibit same-sex marriages in Minnesota.  The House is expected to do the same, meaning Minnesotans would likely vote on the issue in November of next year.  Backers of the marriage amendment argue the people, not politicians and not the courts -- should decide.  Minneapolis Democrat Scott Dibble argues, quote, "It's gonna be an ugly, vile, slanderous campaign against some citizens of the state of Minnesota."  Maple Grove Republican Warren Limmer says leaving the definition of something as important as marriage quote "should be done by the public."  The amendment would define marriage as solely between one man and one woman.
