DULUTH, Min. (KDAL) - This is the final week to donate to local food shelves to allow them to get a proportional match from the statewide Food Share campaign. Meg Kearns from the CHUM emergency food shelf in Duluth says non-perishable food donations are always welcome, but cash gifts are especially critical since the money can be used to purchase perishable foods like meat, cheese and eggs at much reduced prices. On average, the CHUM food shelf acquires food for 20 cents a pound which stretches any monetary gifts to provide more meals for families and households in need. March statewide Food Share donations have been running behind this year's goals.
