The number of moose in northeastern Minnesota continues to dwindle.  The D-N-R's Mark Lenarz says the January aerial survey shows the population is about 49-hundred -- down about 600 from last year's estimate.  He says the calf-to-cow ratio is down to historic-low levels and the local residents they've talked with have noticed the moose population is declining.  D-N-R research indicates moose in the Arrowhead are dying from diseases and parasites.  There are fewer than 100 moose now left in the northwestern parts of Minnesota.
