WASHINGTON DC (KDAL) - U.S. Senators Amy Klobuchar and Al Franken have announced over $1.3 million for infrastructure improvements at Northeastern Minnesota airports. The funding comes from the Federal Aviation Administration through the Department of Transportation.
“Strengthening our airport infrastructure promotes economic development to communities throughout Minnesota,” Klobuchar said. “This support will help ensure that our airports continue to be among the safest and most reliable in the country.”
“Having a reliable, modern airport is vitally important to the economic well-being of northeastern Minnesota’s communities,” Franken said. “This funding will help improve the infrastructure at airports all over the northeast and ensure that they continue to play an important role in creating jobs and economic development in the surrounding region.”
Details for funding :
· Walker Municipal Airport will receive $127,500 to help acquire new snow removal equipment that will improve the airport’s ability to clear the airfield.
· Falls International Airport will receive $242,440 to help improve overall infrastructure and identify future improvements.
· Lindberg Field Airport in Little Falls will receive $49,446 to help identify future improvements and airport needs.
· Gordon Newstrom Field in Grand Rapids will receive $128,250 to help support improvements to overall infrastructure
· Ely Municipal Airport will receive $286,226 to replace the arrival/departure building roof and improve overall infrastructure
· Park Rapids Municipal Airport will receive $478,355 to improve the water and drainage system used by the terminal, as well as identifying future improvements
