UNDATED (WSAU) The D.C. Everest school district will raise fees and cut programs because of a budget shortfall.

Student fees for many athletic teams will double. Currently students pay $20 per spot. The fee is now being set on a sport-by-sport basis, ranging from $45 to $75. Hockey players will pay an additional $250 ice fee. The district will eliminate the gymnastics program, and will cut 20 assistant-coaching positions.

The World Languages classes will be dropped at the middle school, and the 5th grade orchestra program will be cut.

The cuts were debated at the same meeting where board members said they'd study the possible closing ofEaston, Schofield, or Hatley elementary schools. No decisions on school shut-downs were made.
