ST. PAUL, Min (MNN) - Legislation that would repeal the state's ban on new nuclear power plants is on hold after the crisis in Japan. Bills passed by the Minnesota House and Senate have stalled in conference committee. Congressman Tim Walz is still in favor of lifting the moratorium and says if there is evidence that shows it is not workable or the safety needs are too great to overcome, then we need to move in a different direction. He says there is no hurry but he believes nuclear power needs to part of the equation. Walz and Congressman Erik Paulsen sent a letter to Governor Dayton urging him to sign the bill when it reaches his desk.
