ST. PAUL, Min. (MNN) - The middle of April has arrived and the flu season refuses to go away. The Minnesota Health Department identified two additional deaths in the latest reporting period, bringing the statewide total this season to 46. There were also four school and four nursing home outbreaks -- but health officials say flu activity is on the way down. Meanwhile, the number of confirmed cases of measles in Minnesota has jumped to 17, and health experts say they want to get the word out that everyone needs to be vaccinated against the disease. The Health Department's Kris Ehresmann says adults who were vaccinated as a kid should have life-long protection. Children typically get the measles, mumps and rubella vaccine when they're one -- and a booster shot three to five years later. But because of the outbreak, the Health Department is recommending that children get the booster shot only four weeks after the first one, to increase their immunity.
