CHANHASSEN, Min. (MNN) - The Mississippi River is still rising in downtown St. Paul -- within a foot of its predicted crest later this week. High water covers spots like Harriet Island and is close to flowing over the Lower Landing, were roads have been closed since the river first peaked at the end of March. The Mississippi is expected to reach major flood stage at Hastings late tomorrow -- and by the weekend at Red Wing. Meanwhile in northwestern Minnesota, weather officials say numerous roads are closed in Clay County and neighboring Cass County, North Dakota as the Red spreads out and is expected to stay high for the foreseeable future. North of Moorhead, the Red River remains over major flood stage at Halstad and Oslo -- and is moving into major flood stage territory at East Grand Forks this morning. There, an eventual crest of 50-and-a-half-feet predicted as soon as this Thursday.
