UNDATED (MNN) - A new county-by-county report shows Minnesota has one of the highest binge-drinking rates in the nation. That includes all adult age groups. State Health Department Commissioner Edward Ehlinger says part of the problem is the relatively low price of liquor. He says a price increase would cut the number of people drinking and the amount that they drink. Doctor Ehlinger says legalizing Sunday liquor sales would only worsen the problem. He notes that two- percent of Minnesotans admit to excessive drinking -- defined as binge or heavy drinking. A bill to allow liquor sales on Sunday has been introduced in the legislature by Duluth State Senator Roger Reinert and has cleared one committee.
