Heavy rain have triggered widespread flooding and evacuations across parts of Minnesota and Wisconsin. The downpours on Thursday have prompted the governors of both states to declare emergencies. The emergency declaration issued yesterday by Minnesota Governor Tim Pawlenty includes activation of the National Guard to assist in emergency relief efforts. Some areas in Minnesota measured over ten inches of rain since late Wednesday. Areas in west central Wisconsin were also impacted by the heavy rain. Wisconsin Governor Jim Doyle has sent the National Guard to help with relief efforts in Trempealeau, Clark and Jackson Counties. In addition, about two-thirds of the entire town of Arcadia, Wisconsin was told to evacuate their homes yesterday amid flash-flooding fears. Some of those who left the area had to be rescued by boats.
The heavy rain stayed well south of the Twin Ports where rain totals were around an inch in most areas.
